- Inflammatory skin conditions are well-suited for Telemedicine in Dermatology: monitoring of medication to treat them is useful.
- Medication monitoring for established patients has been shown to be effective. This could be done via video visits or by asynchronous visits and this suits both providers and patients.
- Medication which can be monitored are:
- isotretinoin for acne
- methotrexate and biologics for psoriasis
- hydroxychloroquine for lupus.
- Online visit interventions could consist for example of dosage adaptation of the medication based on:
- flaring
- side effects
- lab work
- Discussion with the patient.
- Indeed this is a great way of taking care of patients who are in remission and who don’t have active lesions requiring an in-person physical examination.
