Why use Teledermosocopy ?

  • For practitioners in a clinical setting using dermoscopy for even rashes, diagnostic features shown in another article (Psoriasis, eczema) are obvious.
  • Indeed, adding dermoscopy images into the teledermatology makes a huge difference.

The presenter shows a teledermatology consult:

  • A 35 year old male, comes with multiple itchy papules. These papules are very few and far and scattered all over his body.
  • Based on this, the diagnosis could be papular eczema, insect bite hypersensitivity, it could be a lot of other things.
  • Then dermoscopy is added – it highlights an “inverted triangle shaped head with a round body” with a visible trail: It looks like a burrow.
    • This is a case of scabies !
  • Therefore, the management recommendations completely change from giving topical steroids to take care of eczema, you now are treating in the definite diagnosis of scabies. So adding dermoscopy images on top of clinical images is really a plus in a Teledermatological consultation.
