Reflectance Confocal Microscopy (RCM) for Skin Imaging to Detect Skin Cancers…and Scabies !

So I’m going to show you quick example of three common skin cancers:

• Melanoma: some round dendritic and round abnormal looking refractive areas to us. These are melanoma cells and this overall architecture is very disorganized or disarranged.

• Other images show dermal nests, this would be a Dermal nevus or Melanoma, you can see all the way deeper into the dermis, meshwork patterns, invasions Here is an example if the tumor goes deeper you can still see it.
• Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC): palisading cells surrounding affected cells.

• Squamous cell carcinoma where you see a lot of showing atypical keratinocytes.

• The presenter even detected scabies mite on a skin rash !
